Customs reported that China imported 49.68 million tonnes of iron ore in August, falling 8.4 million tonnes from July's arrivals. During the first eight months of 2009, China imported a total of 404.90 million tonnes, gaining a year-on-year rise of 32 percent.
Meanwhile, China exported 40,000 tonnes of coke in August.
