Wen Xianjun, vice chairman in China Nonferrous Metals Industry (CNMI) said that the association appealed to the government for giving 17% export credits to aluminum products. Aluminum exports should be restricted due to its high energy consumption, but aluminum products exports should be encouraged, Wen added.
In the first half of 2009, Chinese government confirmed to give 13% export rebates to aluminum profile. CNMI believed 13% credits were still too low to enhance China's competitiveness in world export markets. Chinese government should give export rebates instead of directly providing subsidies to enterprises, which can avoid criticism from international society. In the first seven months, China posted 660000 tonnes of aluminum exports, down 42% year on year. Government may also mull over raising export rebates to copper pipes.
