American Iron & Steel Industries reported that in the week ending July 2nd 2011, domestic raw steel production was 1,853,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 75.8%. Production was 1,784,000 tons in the week ending July 2nd 2010, while the capability utilization then was 73.8%.
The current week production represents a 2% increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 2nd 2011 is down 0.7% from the previous week ending June 25, 2011 when production was 1,871,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.5%.
Adjusted year to date production through July 2, 2011 was 47,433,000 tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.2%. That is a 4.5% increase from the 45,399,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.5%.
