In the week ending July 23,
2011, domestic raw steel production was 1,830,000 net tons while the
capability utilization rate was 74.8 percent. Production was 1,684,000
tons in the week ending July 23, 2010, while the capability utilization
then was 69.6 percent. The current week production represents a 5.2
percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for
the week ending July 23, 2011 is down 2.0 percent from the previous week
ending July 16, 2011 when production was 1,879,000 tons and the rate of
capability utilization was 76.8 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date production through July 23, 2011 was 52,990,000
tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.4 percent. That is a 2.7
percent increase from the 50,450,000 tons during the same period last
year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.7 percent.
