Ridley Terminals Coal Exports down 68.7% on Month in November

Houston — Ridley Terminals in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, exported 272,688 mt of thermal and metallurgical coal in November, down 68.7% from the previous month, Prince Rupert Port Authority data showed Tuesday.

The month-on-month decline was the steepest since Platts data began in 2012. From the year-ago month, exports were down 55.4%, the steepest since October 2016.

Combined met and thermal exports were at the lowest level since October 2016 as well.

Through November, Ridley has exported over 7.8 million mt, up 11.1% compared with the year-ago period.
Thermal exports in November totaled 106,602, down 70.5% month on month and the smallest tonnage since February when no thermal tons were exported.

Despite the steep drop from October, thermal exports were up 22.3% year on year. Through 11 months, about 2.8 million mt thermal shipments were made, up 48% year on year.

Met exports totaled 166,086 in November, down 67.4% from October and down 68.3% from the year-ago month. Met exports were at their lowest since February 2017.

Through November, met shipments were over 5 million mt, down 2.4% year on year.

Petcoke exports totaled 116,161 mt in November, down 34.9% month on month and up 23.3% from the year-ago month. Over 11 months, petcoke exports totaled over 1.4 million mt, up 24.3% from the same point last year.
