South Korea's domestic supply in the manufacturing sector rose for three straight quarters through the first quarter, statistical office data showed Friday.
The domestic manufacturing supply, including production at home and imported manufacturing products, grew 2.0 percent in the January-March quarter from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.
The supply continued to grow after expanding 1.2 percent in the third quarter and 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter each last year.
Capital goods supply jumped 24.9 percent in the cited quarter on the back of demand for semiconductor equipment.
However, consumer goods supply declined 2.5 percent, marking the biggest quarterly fall since relevant data began to be compiled in 2010.
It was attributed to the weakened private consumption, caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
The domestic supply of intermediate goods, such as industrial materials and components, reduced 1.3 percent on soft demand for auto parts.
Import of manufacturing products advanced 3.6 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, while production at home added 1.4 percent on demand from machinery and transport equipment.
The portion of import to the total domestic manufacturing supply stood at 27.0 percent in the March quarter, up 0.8 percentage points from a year earlier.
