Recently, the Mongolian General Administration of Customs (MCGA) released that this April, Mongolia’s coal export volume was 997,800 tons, a plunge of 72.68% year-on-year, but an upsurge of 191.76% month-on-month. The export volume in March hit a record low.
In April, coal export volume to China, Mongolia’s main coal export country, decreased by 72.07% year-on-year yet soared by 1.9 times compared to that in the previous month. Since February, coal exports from Mongolia to China have been interrupted due to the impact of COVID-19, leading to a significant drop in Mongolian coal exports.
In the same month, Mongolia’s bituminous coal export volume was 0.9813 million tons, a number decreased by 73.05% year-on-year, and increased 1.91 times on a month basis. The anthracite coal export volume was 8400 tons, a 21.12% drop year-on-year. No anthracite coal was exported in February.
From January to April this year, Mongolia’s coal exports totaled 4.0016 million tons, much lower than 11.3848 million tons in the same period of the previous year. In the same period, Mongolia’s coal export value was 334 million dollars, far below 960 million dollars from the same period of last year.
