Japan's aluminum output was expected to decrease in Q2 due to the temporarily shut down in auto-industry against the spread of Covid-19 and the weak demand in Q2.

It was predicted that the demand in auto-industry and other industries will go up in March 2021, but it was difficult back to the level before the pandemic, and this meant the aluminum ingot import will decrease.

According to the Japan Aluminium Association (JAA), Japan’s rolled aluminum output in Q1 decreased by 15%. The consumption in the auto industry occupied 15%-18% of the total output.

UACJ, the biggest rolled aluminum producer in Japan, predicted that the demand in the auto industry might increase after June, but there were too many uncertainties.
