According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 827,000 tons of pig iron in the first seven months of this year, falling by 8% compared to the year-ago level. The import value was roughly US$387 million, a year-on-year decrease of 32%.
Among them, imports from Russia ranked first, with a supply of roughly 587,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.1%; followed by Ukraine’s 76,600 tons and India’s 74,000 tons.
In July alone, Turkey’s pig iron imports greatly hiked by 104% month on month and rose by 8.4% year on year to around 134,000 tons. The value of these imports reached roughly US$57.4 million, a month-on-month growth of 64% and a year-on-year increase of 90%.
