Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Mines, Coal and Parliamentary Affairs of India, said India’s power sector aims to reduce coal imports by 2% by 2025 due to a substantial increase in domestic coal production. The Minister said that overall coal production this year is expected to surpass one billion tons.
India has been following sustainable coal mining practices, becoming a global leader in containing emissions. The country has provided Rs 6,000 crore incentive for coal gasification, and Coal Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have planted 100 million saplings in recent years to strengthen sustainable mining.
