Recently, Baotou Steel successfully developed and mass-produced high-strength weather-resistant steel for shipping containers.

As steel materials advance toward higher strength and durability, the strength of weather-resistant steel for containers has upgraded from 345MPa to 460MPa and 550MPa. Enhancing material strength reduces container weight, further improving transportation efficiency and achieving energy savings and emissions reduction.

In 2023, Baotou Steel's technology research team collaborated with production units and marketing centers to conduct market research. They identified a container manufacturing company in Baotou as the initial user for this product. Leveraging the weathering resistance of phosphorus elements and economic product design strategies through titanium element precipitation strengthening, they successfully developed two new products, Q460NHJE and Q550NHJE, of high-strength weather-resistant steel for shipping containers. These products have smoothly passed various assessments by the China Classification Society and obtained production qualification certificates.
