Bhilai Steel Plant, part of Steel Authority of India -SAIL group, contracted Danieli Service India for the alignment and turret bearing change of its slab caster #6 in Chhattisgarh.
This was the first major shutdown of the Danieli caster since its supply and commissioning in 2009.
The target for this Danieli Service activity was to bring the slab caster back to its original, good performances by supporting the customer with condition analysis, segments alignment, data collection and the development of restoration solutions, to reduce plant down-times and maximize cost savings.
The mechanical activity included the complete dismantling and replacement of the turret bearing, the machining of the turret body and bearing seating area, plus the erection/alignment of the new segment extraction guides, the rectification/correction for damaged parts, and the alignment of the machine casting radius.
The project involved specialized mechanical experts from Danieli headquarters and Danieli India supervisors working on two shifts until task completion, in 38 days.
SAIL Bhilai appreciated Danieli support and optimized procedures implemented during this intervention, which led to a quick, on-time schedule, and a higher caster availability which resulted into an important production increase.
