The sixth session of the 6th General Assembly of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) was held in Beijing on Jan 12. The conference focused on summarizing the industry performance in 2023, analyzing the situation faced in 2024, and the key work tasks of the CISA, and concentrated on the promotion of the high-quality development of the steel industry.
Tan Chengxu, Chairman of the CISA, addressed on the conference. He Wenbo, Secretary of the Party Committee and executive chairman of CISA, attended the conference and presided over the steel enterprise special exchange session. The newly elected chairman of CISA in 2024, Yao Lin, delivered an inaugural speech. Jiang Wei, deputy Secretary of the CISA Party Committee, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General, presided over the morning agenda of the conference.
The seventh session of the 6th board meetings of CISA was held at the same time.
Tan Chengxu delivered the work report entitled "Building Consensus and Strengthening Confidence to Promote the high-quality development of the steel Industry to a new level", he summarized the steel industry performance in 2023, reviewed the progress of the key work of the steel industry, analyzed the current situation facing the steel industry, and deployed the key work tasks of the steel industry in 2024.
Tan Chengxu said that the operation of the steel industry in 2023 presented five characteristics: first, steel production is stronger than consumption, and the variety optimization meets the downstream demand. Second, the growth of steel exports alleviated the periodic contradiction between supply and demand in domestic and overeseas markets. Third, steel prices fell year-on-year, and the price of imported iron ore remained high. Fourth, the efficiency of steel enterprises declined year-on-year, and the industry profitability continued to be in a low position. Fifth, investment in energy conservation and environmental protection expanded, and the environmental performance of steel enterprises continued to improve.
Tan Chengxu expressed his belief that in 2024, the overseas and domestic situation facing the steel industry is still complex and severe, and opportunities and challenges coexisted. The opportunity came from the recovery of China's economy, and the advantages of large scale market and domestic demand potential provided broad space for the development of steel industry, while the challenges came from insufficient effective demand, rapid release of production capacity and weak social expectations. He said that the hidden risks still existed, and efforts were still needed to improve the dynamic adaptation of steel supply and demand.
In the afternoon enterprise special exchange session, He Wenbo and the head of China Baowu, Hunan Iron and Steel Group, Jianlong steel Group and Jingye steel Group conducted a high-end dialogue and collision of ideas. Many participants and speakers had a warm interaction and exchange, in-depth discussion of production capacity governance, joint restructuring, scientific and technological innovation, green and low-carbon, cost reduction and efficiency, diversified industrial development, overseas exploration and development, industry and finance cooperation and other hot issues.
