According to statistics from Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), the country’s crude steel production totaled around 2.7 million tons in January, slightly rising by 0.4% compared to the same month a year ago.
During the period, Brazil’s rolled steel production rose by 8% year on year to 1.97 million tons. Output of long products was up by 5.4% year on year to 794,000 tons, and that of flat products increased by 10% year on year to 1.2 million tons.
In January, Brazil's steel imports fell by 3% year on year to 367,000 tons, while exports rose by 1.8% year on year to 967,000 tons. IABr said that although imports in January dropped, the volume was expected to remain this year high due to dumped steel products from other countries.
