The European Commission has approved to provide EUR 370 million to support Italy in establishing Green Hydrogen Valley.
Edison, an Italian electric utility company, Saipem, an Italian clean energy company, and Sosteneo SGR, an asset management company that specializes in greenfield infrastructure investments, said that it planned to construct 260 MW of solar photovoltaic capacity and 160 MW of electrolysis capacity around the cities of Brindisi and Taranto to produce green hydrogen.
The fuel will be applied to decarbonize direct reduced iron manufacturing at Italy's largest steel plant in Taranto and other Italian steel mills.
