The International Steel Trade Association (ISTA) indicated that Tata Steel aimed to adopt electric arc furnace technology; therefore, it tried to switch from the focus on steel manufacturing to an importer, especially hot-rolled coil (HRC). Under this situation, ISTA urged the UK's Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) to review the steel coil import quotas overall.
ISTA further added that Tata Steel imported hot-rolled coil to produce cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized coil (CRC, HDG), which might impact the imports of CRC and HDG. As a result, the import volume should be reviewed.
