During an investment attraction tour of Asia, Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, the governor of Guanajuato, announced that Nippon Steel, a leading Japanese automotive company, will establish a new $71.3 million plant in Apaseo El Grande, the same municipality that hosts Toyota's assembly facility.
The investment aims to produce automotive steel components, primarily focused on electric vehicles (EVs), creating 200 direct jobs. According to Directorio Automotriz, the new plant will have an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons of automotive steel sheets for EVs across four production lines, including coil and coil slitting operations.
This investment aligns with Nippon Steel's strategic plan to become a global leader in the automotive steel industry. In 2023, the company announced the acquisition of U.S. Steel for $14.9 billion, solidifying its position as a major player in the sector.
