According to statistics from Brazil Steel Institute (Instituto Aço Brasil, IABr), in March, Brazil’s crude steel production reached about 2.78 million tons, increasing by 5.6% from the same month a year ago.
Meanwhile, compared March 2024 to the same month in 2023, the rolled steel production went up by 3.6% to 1.93 million tons. The production of flat products increased by 7.5% to 1.1 million tons. The output of long products slightly dropped by 1.2% to about 832,000 tons. The domestic steel sales went down by 7.3% to 1.69 million tons.
During the same month, steel exports decreased by 23.2% year on year to about 942,000 tons, while imports hiked by 46% from the corresponding period a year ago to 486,000 tons.
