According to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), exports of Japan’s steel products amounted to 13.79 million tons in the first five months of this year, slightly falling by 0.5% from the year-ago level.
Among them, the exports to South Korea accounted for the largest proportion, totaling 2.57 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%. Thailand ranked second with 2.02 million tons, falling by 35% year on year, followed by China’s 1.18 million tons and Taiwan’s 705,000 tons.
In May alone, Japan exported 3.02 million tons of steel products, up by 13.2% month on month and by 0.1% year on year.
