Veysel Yayan, President of the Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metals Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), said that Turkey’s steel industry hopes to become the largest steel producer in Europe by 2024, with a long-term goal to catch up South Korea and rank sixth in the world.
Yayan said that the decrease in the first 11 months of last year was mainly due to higher energy prices and earthquakes that occurred last February. However, Turkey has made up for these production losses since June, with all production resumed. Besides, energy prices have fallen to reasonable levels.
