The Nederland's government is considering a multi-billion-euro
investment to mitigate the environmental effects of the Tata
steelworks in Ijmuiden. Minister of Economic Affairs, Micky
Adriaansens, intends to confer with Tata management in the coming
weeks to outline the terms of the investment, estimated at up to EUR
3 billion by an advisory committee.
The discussion ranges from plant closure to establishing a new
factory, with closure costs estimated at EUR 16 billion. Regarding
other solutions, Tata Steel's green transition plan may require EUR
500 million to EUR 2 billion by 2030. Besides, Growing concerns over
the health impacts of emissions from the steelworks have sparked
numerous court cases. The Public Health Institute RIVM declared last
September a direct correlation between the plant's emissions and the
health of local residents.
