An Indonesian government official said that the country's nickel production in 2023 is expected to be between 1.65-1.75 million tons.
Indonesia's raw nickel production increased by 32% to 1.16 million tons last year, accounting for 38% of global output and more than doubling the country's 16% share in 2019.
The country's nickel metal production capacity is expected to reach 2.2 million tons in 2023, according to Septian Hario Seto, deputy minister of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs of Indonesia, saying that nickel pig iron and nickel matte capacity is expected to be 1.94 million tons, while mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) capacity is forecast at 265,000 tons. Smelters without their mines will face difficulties as smelter supply tightens.
