According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 256,000 tons of slab in December last year, falling by 16% compared to the previous month and surging by 195% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 163,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 33.4%, and the volume in December 2022 was zero. Mexico was also one of the import sources with around 57,400 tons, followed by Canada’s 25,400 tons.
During the period, the import value totaled approximately US$142 million, down by 18.1% month on month and soaring by 151% year on year.
