According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), in February, the US’ slab imports amounted to about 380,000 tons, a month-on-month growth of 3.8% and a year-on-year hike of 37.8%. The import value was about US$269 million, gaining by 15.8% compared to January and soaring by 58.5% from the same month of last year.
Among them, Brazil was the main import source, increasing by 22.7% month on month and by 45.4 year on year to about 341,000 tons. Other import sources include Canada (about 33,000 tons) and Mexico (about 20,000 tons).
