According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 1.02 million tons of pig iron in the first nine months of this year, falling by 13.5% compared to the year-ago level.
Among them, imports from Russia ranked first, with a supply of roughly 716,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%; followed by Ukraine’s 122,000 tons, Brazil's 55,000 tons, and Germany's 53,000 tons.
Turkey aims to increase domestic pig iron production to decrease the reliance upon imported sources.
