According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 1.4 million tons of pig iron in 2023, slightly falling by 0.2% compared to the previous year. The import value was roughly US$606 million, a year-on-year decrease of 24%.
Among them, imports from Russia ranked first, with a supply of roughly 857,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.2%. Russia was followed by Brazil’s 109,900 tons and Ukraine’s 109,400 tons, and the volume fell by 56.3% and 31% year on year, respectively.
In December alone, Turkey’s pig iron imports decreased by 21% month on month and rose by 33% year on year to around 99,000 tons. The value of these imports reached roughly US$40.9 million, a month-on-month drop of 21% and a year-on-year increase of 23%.
