According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 292,500 tons of slab in January this year, surging by 236% compared to the previous month but falling by 37% from the same month a year ago.、
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 200,200 tons, a year-on-year increase of 15%. Other major import sources included Mexico (32,800 tons), Australia (31,000 tons), and Canada (23,700 tons).
During the period, the import value totaled approximately US$178 million, soaring by 215.4% month on month and falling by 47.7% year on year.
