According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 423,000 tons of slab in March this year, rising by 48% compared to the previous month and by 52% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 326,000 tons, a month-on-month hike of 38.7% and a year-on-year increase of 63%. Other major import sources included Mexico (53,100 tons) and Canada (33,100 tons).
During the period, the import value totaled approximately US$259 million, up by 52.8% month on month and by 41% year on year.
