According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 207,000 tons of slab in August this year, falling by 34% compared to the previous month and by 25% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 104,500 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 53.6% and a year-on-year drop of 14.2%. Other major import sources included Mexico (72,000 tons) and Canada (31,000 tons).
During the period, the import value totaled approximately US$134 million, down by 43.8% month on month and by 37.4% year on year.
