According to statistics from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan imported a total of 707,000 tons of steel in October 2023, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%. Among them, imports of common steel reached 456,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 20.8%. From the perspective of the main imported varieties, imports of HRC reached 137,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 13.2%; imports of CRC reached 87,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 23.7%; imports of galvanized steel sheet reached 128,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 37.0%; imports of heavy plate reached 30,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.3%.
From the perspective of imports from major sources of common steel in October, Japan imported 285,000 tons from South Korea, a year-on-year increase of 27.2%; imported 78,000 tons from China, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%; imported 81,000 tons from Taiwan, China, up 1.3% year-on-year.
