According to statistics from the Japan Steel Alliance, Japan imported a total of 593,000 tons of steel in February 2024, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%. Among them, 384,000 tons of ordinary steel were imported, a year-on-year increase of 3.0%. The main types of steel imported were: 115000 tons o fHRC, a year-on-year increase of 8.0%; 72,000 tons of CRC, a year-on-year decrease of 3.7%; 101,000 tons of galvanized steel sheet, a year-on-year decrease of 2.7%, and 40,000 tons of heavy plate, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%.
The main sources of ordinary steel imports of Japan in February were: 251,000 tons were imported from South Korea, a year-on-year increase of 2.9%; 81000 tons were imported from Taiwan, China, up 19.6% year on year; and 42000 tons were imported from China, a year-on-year decrease of 26.9%.
