According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 16.8 million tons of scrap in the first 11 months of last year, falling by 14% compared to the same period a year ago.
Among them, imports from the US accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 3.93 million tons, rising by 7.3% compared to the same period a year ago. The Netherlands ranked second with 1.88 million tons, falling by 7% year on year; followed by Belgium’s 1.43 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.8%.
In November alone, Turkey’s scrap imports totaled roughly 1.54 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 3.3% and a year-on-year hike of 16.3%. These imports were worth around US$602 million, up by 6% month on month and by 22% year on year.
